Boeing and OKCPS Foundation Launch 2025 Liftoff for Learning Volunteer Day to Fuel Students’ Love for Reading

August 15, 2025

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — On August 1, 2025, the Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) Foundation joined forces with Boeing for their annual Liftoff for Learning volunteer day – a hands-on effort that supported ReadOKC’s On the Go! Book Buses. The book buses are part of a districtwide initiative to ignite a love of reading among OKCPS students.

Throughout the day, over 50 Boeing employee volunteers rolled up their sleeves and spent the day organizing, restocking, and preparing the Foundation’s beloved book buses — Stella and Percy — ahead of the 2025-2026 school year.

“We are incredibly grateful to Boeing and every person who participated in this year’s Liftoff for Learning,” said Kendra Horn, President and CEO of the Oklahoma City Public Schools Foundation. “Each year, we give more than 30,000 brand-new books to OKCPS students to help them build their home libraries. Thanks to Boeing’s generosity and efforts, our buses are ready to roll into this school year once again.”

This year’s campaign is part of Boeing’s larger Liftoff for Learning initiative, which spans several weeks leading up to the start of school. The campaign combines employee volunteerism with philanthropic investment, helping ensure that students across Oklahoma City have access to books and school resources from day one.

“At Boeing, we strongly believe every student deserves to be properly equipped with all the learning tools they need to succeed,” said Bailey Perkins Wright, Boeing Global Engagement Community Investor. “We are grateful for our partnership with Oklahoma Public Schools Foundation in our Liftoff For Learning campaign, which aims to encourage and inspire young students as they continue to forge their path to becoming the next generation of innovators and problem solvers.”

As part of the campaign, Boeing donated 126 book sets, totaling hundreds of books, to help stock the ReadOKC Book Buses. These books directly benefit children across the district, many of whom face limited access to books outside the classroom. In addition to the books, Boeing donated over $21,000 to support ReadOKC’s literacy efforts and the OKCPS Foundation’s broader mission.

“Our book buses help fuel a love of reading by empowering students to choose books that ignite their imagination,” said Horn. “We couldn’t do this without our incredible volunteers and community support.”

The OKCPS Foundation and Boeing encourage others to get involved by supporting ReadOKC and similar programs that promote literacy and learning throughout Oklahoma City.
