Each year, Coat-A-Kid provides brand-new winter coats to Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) students in need, helping remove a barrier to learning during the coldest months of the year. A warm coat is more than protection from the cold – it is a tool that helps students arrive at school comfortable, prepared, and ready to focus on learning.

During distribution events, volunteers help students “shop” for their coats, giving them the opportunity to try on different options and choose a brand-new coat they feel proud to wear. That experience is intentional. Giving students the power to choose helps create a sense of ownership, builds confidence, and reinforces that their preferences matter.

This program is one piece of the puzzle in helping students feel supported and ready to realize their full potential, both in the classroom and beyond.
