Organized by a diverse group of civic, business and community leaders, Project KIDS was created by collaboration among the City of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma City Public Schools, Board of Education and Oklahoma City Public Schools Foundation.
The Project KIDS (Keep Improving District Schools) final report, Building a Learning City, states specific ideas and recommendations for improving learning, facilities, fiscal responsibility, governance and developing and maintaining community involvement.
MAPS for Kids (Metropolitan Area Public Schools) brought the funding necessary for capital improvements detailed in the Project KIDS report.
Approval of the $700 million temporary sales tax and bond issue to benefit 24 public school districts, with $530 million of the tax monies designated for the Oklahoma City Public Schools, will allow students to attend new or fully renovated schools, state-of-the-art technology to be added to all schools and an aging bus fleet to be replaced.
