Jean G. Gumerson Endowment for the Pursuit of Teacher Excellence - National Board Certification Scholarship

Supporting Oklahoma City Public School Teachers in Attaining National Board Certification

Deadline: Typically, mid-February
  Application available mid-September

The Jean G. Gumerson Endowment was created to support certified teachers of the Oklahoma City Public Schools in pursuing National Board Certification. The initial focus of the endowment was on Middle School teachers, but is now offered to teachers at all levels.

National Board Certification is a voluntary system developed by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) to assess and certify teachers who meet high and rigorous standards. It is a symbol of commitment to excellence in teaching. A NBPTS certificate is a credential in attesting that a teacher has been assessed by his/her peers as one who is accomplished, makes sound professional judgments about student learning, and acts effectively on those judgments.

Candidate requirements for certification include creation of a four-part written portfolio including two videos of classroom practice and completion of six 30-minute written assessments demonstrating content knowledge and pedagogy.

Additional information about the certification process can be found at www.nbpts.org.

Gumerson Endowment Scholarship recipients will be notified in May 2009.
