Focus #2: Community Engagement

Partners in Action

Our schools can’t do it alone, they need our help.

Take an active role in helping to shape the future of the 46,000 students who attend an Oklahoma City Public School  every day.

The Partners In Action initiative provides the infrastructure to develop community partners for every school and every classroom. From large corporations to small businesses, churches to nonprofits, there are a variety of ways for community partners across Oklahoma City to play a strategic and meaningful role for Oklahoma City Public Schools and the children it serves.

The Great Commitment- Working together as one for all students- is the district’s five-year strategic plan. It was developed through a series of public meetings with families, students, educators and community leaders and sets Oklahoma City Public Schools on a course of high standards, intervention for our most challenged students and creating a world-class school system.

The plan relies on community support. These are OUR schools, and it will take our collective effort to ensure that every student has the opportunity to succeed. Partners In Action is the vehicle for rallying the community around its schools and providing teachers and students with the support they need.

There are many examples of Partners in Action doing amazing things for our schools. A few recent partners include Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores and OU Physicians partnering to purchase dance uniforms for Douglass Mid-High School, and the Oklahoma County Bar Association creating a reading room at Adams Elementary.

Oklahoma City has transformed itself as a global hub of business, culture and quality of life. Now, it is time for us to transform Oklahoma City Public Schools into one of the world’s best urban school systems.

You are invited to join OKCPS and The Foundation for Oklahoma City Public Schools as a community partner and help bring transformation to our local schools.
