The Jean G. Gumerson Endowment was created to support certified teachers of the Oklahoma City Public Schools in pursuing National Board Certification.

National Board Certification is a voluntary system developed by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) to assess and certify teachers who meet high and rigorous standards. It is a symbol of commitment to excellence in teaching.

Candidate requirements for certification include creation of a four-part written portfolio and completion of six, 30-minute written assessments demonstrating content knowledge and pedagogy.

Eligibility:

  • All certified teachers in the Oklahoma City Public Schools
  • National Board has additional eligibility requirements. Please visit www.nbpts.org for additional information.

Number of Awards: Up to 20

Amount of Award: $2,750 (includes $2,500 application fee and a $250 stipend)

Recipients will be notified by May 2009.

INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Applicants must send the completed, typed application and the requested materials: verification from building administrator (included in application), two letters of recommendation from colleagues and responses to application questions.

  2. Applications are first reviewed and scored by the Oklahoma Commission for Teacher Preparation. Their scores are forwarded to a Foundation Selection Committee for review and final selection.

  3. Recipients will be notified by May 2009.
