The Foundation for Oklahoma City Public Schools and Devon Energy are pleased to present the Devon Great Idea Grants.  The Collaborative Grants, of up to $5,000 each, are for teams of teachers to implement projects that inspire students of all backgrounds and abilities to learn.

Eligibility:  All Oklahoma City Public Schools teachers and staff who have direct instructional responsibility for students (including media specialists and guidance counselors) in grades pre-k through 12 and who are members of a horizontal or vertical team (e.g., interdisciplinary, departmental, grade level, community teams at one or more school sites) are eligible to apply on behalf of their team.

Applicant teams may submit only one grant proposal per school year.  Funding will not be provided for computers, salaries, honoraria, travel or capital improvement projects.   Additionally, teachers are permitted to apply for a Devon Great Idea Grant—Individual separate from their teaching team.  However, the individual grant proposal must be completely different than the collaborative proposal.

Review and Selection Process :

A Grant Review Committee comprised of business and community volunteers will read and score each proposal based on a rubric containing five equally weighted sections: 1) educational impact 2) project description and student activities 3) evaluation measures 4) budget 5) stewardship of donor funds.

Projects should address one of the following target areas:

  1. District curriculum and/or Oklahoma Priority Academic Student Skills (PASS)

  2. Student engagement (i.e., student attendance improvement, drop out reduction, graduation rate improvement)

  3. Parental engagement

Grant winners are also required to submit an on-line evaluation at the end of the school year.

Preferred projects will:

  • Utilize creative ideas and teaching techniques

  • Emphasize active student learning and participation

  • Items purchased are not consumable

  • Since the review committee, may or may not be from the field of education, it is vitally important that your application not contain educational jargon.  Also, please identify acronyms and clearly explain programs/initiatives so that someone from outside the field of education will be able to understand your proposal.

Deadline:  Only on-line applications will be accepted.  Applications must be received no later than Friday, November 21, 2008, 4:30 p.m. in the Foundation office.
