Chesapeake Energy Corporation Invests in OKC Schools
With $100,000 Pledge to Match New Public Contributions

Chesapeake Energy CorporationOklahoma City – A long-time advocate and supporter of The Foundation for Oklahoma City Public Schools, Chesapeake Energy Corporation is challenging the community to invest in the future of Oklahoma City school children with its one-year, $100,000 matching gift challenge. The challenge gift will match new gifts to The Foundation, both individual and corporate, dollar for dollar until the $100,000 is exhausted.

"We want our gift to trigger additional giving to The Foundation," explained Aubrey K. McClendon, Chairman and CEO. "With the community's support, The Foundation will continue to fill real needs within our schools by offering innovative programs like the new Teachers Warehouse that provides free supplies to teachers and overseeing a three-year instrument inventory, which provides essential support to the District’s arts programs."

"Chesapeake Energy Corporation exemplifies the kind of corporate citizen that sets the standard of excellence," said Mary Jenkins, The Foundation Executive Director. "Placing a priority on improving our schools, not only through financial support but also by actively participating in Partners in Education, Chesapeake is making Oklahoma City a better place to live for its employees and the entire community. It's little wonder that this year FORTUNE magazine named Chesapeake Energy Corporation one of the 100 best companies to work for in America."

Each year, Chesapeake employees serve as student mentors at Horace Mann Elementary School. The company also supports other Foundation initiatives including the annual Stars of Education event, which recognizes Oklahoma City Public Schools' District Teacher of the Year, Great Idea Grant winners, Super Support Staff nominees, student scholarship winners, Valued Volunteers, and Perfect Partnerships. In addition, Chesapeake recently donated a new logo to The Foundation in anticipation of the independent, nonprofit's 25th anniversary year.

"The Foundation connects the support of the community to the needs of the schools, teachers, and, most importantly, students. It's because of this unique and important role that Chesapeake has committed to supporting The Foundation and challenges the community to do the same," said McClendon.
