The Foundation's New Name and Logo: A Reflection of its Impact on Oklahoma City School Children

The Foundation for Oklahoma City Public SchoolsOklahoma City – In anticipation of its 25th anniversary year, the Oklahoma City Public Schools Foundation is updating its identity to better reflect the impact of its work. A new name, The Foundation for Oklahoma City Public Schools, a new nickname, The Foundation, and a new logo that shows the handprint of a child inside the handprint of an adult illustrates The Foundation’s role as an independent nonprofit bridging the gap between the support our students receive and the support they need.

The Foundation's new logo design was donated by Chesapeake Energy Corporation and developed by New West Group. "As a champion of The Foundation, Chesapeake Energy understood the importance of redesigning The Foundation logo to clearly communicate the work we do on behalf of Oklahoma City Public Schools children," explained Stanley Hupfeld, The Foundation Chairman.

"Those who've previewed our logo had two immediate and positive impressions. First, the logo reflects the hand of the community supporting our kids. Second, the logo shows a child growing into an adult with the support of the community," said Hupfeld. "Our look and name may be changing, but our commitment to matching the resources of the community to the needs of the schools remains steadfast."

The Foundation is a name in which there is already substantial equity as the nonprofit’s advocates in the community and those served in the schools have referred to the nonprofit as "The Foundation" for many years, according to Hupfeld.

Hupfeld stated that the new name and logo reflect The Foundation's positive momentum. A few examples of this building momentum given by Hupfeld include:

  • The Foundation’s new Teachers Warehouse (www.okckids.com/tw) that helps teachers get the basic supplies they need to teach without spending their own paychecks.

  • Strengthened Devon Great Idea Grants (www.okckids.com/devon) that provide more opportunities to teachers to revitalize the classroom experience for students.

  • The new Kenneth Donald Burke Scholarship (www.okckids.com/burke), which provides a $2,500 scholarship each year to a deserving Northwest Classen scholar athlete.

  • Increased Student InCENTives (www.okckids.com/incentives) award amounts that provide additional funding for students to attend academic and artistic competitions.
