Progress Continues for New MAPS for Kids School Cesar Chavez Elementary to host Community Meeting

Oklahoma City – As progress continues toward the construction of the new Cesar Chavez Elementary School, the public is invited to participate in the planning process by attending the school’s next MAPS for Kids meeting. Parents, students, teachers, staff and the public are encouraged to attend the Monday, June 16 meeting at 6 p.m. in the Capitol Hill Elementary School cafeteria, 2717 S Robinson. To assist those in attendance, a Spanish language translator will be at the meeting.

The new Cesar Chavez Elementary School will join the Capitol Hill Learning Community. In addition to the core subject classrooms, preliminary plans for the new pre-kindergarten through sixth grade school include music and visual arts classrooms. At the June 16 meeting, planners will present the proposed design, construction schedules, and a project cost estimate. A representative from the architectural firm, Frankfurt Short Bruza, will also be on hand to answer any questions from the audience regarding the proposed design.

With the passage of the MAPS for Kids initiative in November 2001 came approximately $700 million in funding from sales taxes and bond funds necessary for capital improvements in Oklahoma City’s 24 public school districts. Approximately $530 million of those monies are designated for Oklahoma City Public Schools. Under the MAPS for Kids plan, four community meetings will be held for each school that will be rebuilt and fully renovated.

If you need a sign language interpreter, a language interpreter or have a disability requiring assistance at the meeting, please call 879-2007, by June 12.
