Preliminary MAPS for Kids Designs to be Presented
for Nichols Hills School for International Studies

Oklahoma City – The public will have the opportunity to review preliminary design plans and provide feedback as Nichols Hills School for International Studies prepares for its MAPS for Kids renovations. A community meeting will be held on Monday, May 19, 2008, at 6 p.m. in the school cafeteria, 1301 W Wilshire Blvd.

Preliminary design plans for site plan renovations, building renovations and the building addition will be presented to parents, teachers, students, staff and the public in attendance at the meeting. Those in attendance will also have the opportunity to ask questions or voice any concerns they may have during the meeting’s Q&A session. The proposed design and construction schedules as well as upcoming meeting dates will also be presented at the meeting.

The Nichols Hills Rattlesnakes received national recognition with the Blue Ribbon School of Excellence award from the U.S. Department of Education in 2001. A specialty school of International Studies and Fine Arts, Nichols Hills’ MAPS for Kids renovation will include conversion from a kindergarten through fifth grade to a pre-kindergarten through sixth grade school. With a proposed addition of approximately 17,000 square feet, planned renovations include a classroom addition and an expansion of the school’s core facilities. The construction budget is $2.1 million for the renovation and addition.

With the passage of the MAPS for Kids initiative in November 2001 came approximately $700 million in funding from sales taxes and bond funds necessary for capital improvements in Oklahoma City’s 24 public school districts. Approximately $530 million of those monies are designated for Oklahoma City Public Schools. Under the MAPS for Kids plan, four community meetings will be held for each school that will be rebuilt and fully renovated.

If you need a sign language interpreter, a language interpreter or have a disability requiring assistance at the meeting, please call 879-2007, by May 15.
