Coolidge Elementary School’s MAPS for Kids Preliminary Design Drawings to be Presented to Public

Oklahoma City – Coolidge Elementary will host a community meeting to review design development drawings and the proposed project schedule for the MAPS for Kids renovation of Coolidge Elementary. Parents, teachers and the public are encouraged to attend and provide feedback at the meeting scheduled for Monday, March 24, 2008, at 6 p.m. in the school’s cafeteria, 5512 South Villa.

Named after our 30th President, Calvin Coolidge, Coolidge Elementary opened its doors in 1953. The Coolidge Crocodiles are a part of the U.S. Grant learning community with students graduating to Jefferson Middle School and then the new U.S. Grant High School. As part of the MAPS for Kids renovation, the school will be converted from a pre-k through fifth grade to a pre-k through sixth grade school. Planned renovations include a classroom addition and an expansion of the school’s core facilities. The construction budget for Coolidge Elementary’s renovation is $4.4 million.

With the passage of the MAPS for Kids initiative in November 2001 came approximately $700 million in funding from sales taxes and bond funds necessary for capital improvements in Oklahoma City’s 24 public school districts. Approximately $530 million of those monies are designated for Oklahoma City Public Schools. Under the MAPS for Kids plan, four community meetings will be held for each school that will be rebuilt and fully renovated.

If you need a sign language interpreter, a language interpreter or have a disability requiring assistance at the meeting, please call 879-2007, by March 20th.
