Northwest Classen High School to Begin MAPS for Kids Process - First Community Meeting Set for February 21

Oklahoma City – Northwest Classen High School is the next Oklahoma City Public School to begin the MAPS for Kids process. The public is encouraged to attend the first community school design meeting, set for Thursday, February 21 at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held in the school’s cafeteria, 2801 NW 27th, Oklahoma City. Parents, students, teachers and members of the community who attend the meeting will learn more about the planning process and hear a project overview as well as have a chance to review plans for the school’s renovation.

Named after the visionary Anton Classen, an early civic leader who had great faith and belief in the future success of Oklahoma City, Northwest Classen High School opened its doors in 1952. Northwest Classen, home of the Knights, serves 9th through 12th grade students. Under the MAPS for Kids plan, Northwest Classen will receive facility upgrades and improvements to the existing campus. The budget for Northwest Classen’s renovation is $12.9 million.

With the passage of the MAPS for Kids initiative in November 2001 came approximately $700 million in funding from sales taxes and bond money necessary for capital improvements in Oklahoma City’s 24 public school districts. Approximately $520 million of those monies are designated for Oklahoma City Public Schools. Under the MAPS for Kids plan, four community meetings will be held for each school that will be rebuilt or fully renovated.

To assist those attending, a Spanish language interpreter will be at the meeting. If you need a sign language interpreter, a language interpreter or have a disability requiring assistance at the meeting, please call 879-2007, before noon on the day of the meeting.
