District Teacher of the Year Selection

Since the school district will be closed on Thursday and Friday the “bad weather rule” for Teacher of the Year will apply. Your portfolios will be due on the next day that school is in session. At this point that looks like Monday, January 11, 2010 by 4:30pm in Room 328C of the Central Office. Teacher of the Year selection will happen on Saturday, January 16th.

The Central Office will still be open if you want to turn your stuff in on Friday and Robyn Hilger, The Foundation Program Director, will be in the office in case you have any questions 879-2007.

Save the Date for the 2009 Wall of Fame: October 22

The 2009 Wall of Fame class of inductees will include three outstanding Oklahoma City Public Schools alumni, Sportscasting Legend Bob Barry Sr., BancFirst Corporation Vice Chairman and Local Philanthropist James R. Daniel, and Sonic, America’s Drive-in Chairman and CEO Cliff Hudson, past-chairman of The Oklahoma City Public School Board.

Induction ceremonies will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2009, at the Skirvin Hilton Hotel in Oklahoma City. An early sell-out of the black-tie event is expected. Those who would like to attend are encouraged to make reservations by contacting Sharon Williams at The Foundation, (405) 879-2007 or sharon@okckids.com.

Stars of Education 2009, A Celebration of Those Who Make a Difference, is the education event of the year honoring the Oklahoma City Public Schools District Teacher of the Year, Devon Great Idea Grant winners, Super Support Staff nominees, Student Scholarship winners, Valuable Volunteers and Perfect Partnerships.

6:30 p.m. Program

Douglass High School Auditorium
900 Martin Luther King Blvd.

The annual event is presented by The Foundation for Oklahoma City Public Schools, Independent Insurance Agents Association of Greater Oklahoma City, Greater Oklahoma City Chamber and Oklahoma City Public Schools.


Teachers Warehouse Binder Blowout

The Binder Blowout will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2009, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. This event is open to all Oklahoma City Public Schools District teachers (including Charter Schools). To pick-up as many free binders as you can carry (while supplies last), fill out the online order form in advance and bring it with you to The Foundation, 5225 N. Shartel Avenue, Ste. 201, on Thursday, February 12. Please bring your own box to carry binders back to your classroom.

SCHOLARSHIP INTERVIEWS RE-SCHEDULED

ALL Scholarship Interviews scheduled for Monday, January 26, 2009, have been cancelled due to the ice storm. The interviews have been re-scheduled for next Monday, February 2, 2009. If you were scheduled for an interview on January 26, your interview will now be on Monday, February 2 at the same time.

Bayless, Dulaney and Hill to be Inducted into the Wall of Fame

Three Oklahoma City Public Schools alumni, Skip Bayless, L. Thomas Dulaney, Jr. and Carolyn Hill, have been selected for induction into the Wall of Fame. The Foundation for Oklahoma City Public Schools’ annual Wall of Fame Humanitarian Awards Dinner will be held October 23, 2008 at the Skirvin Hilton beginning with
a cocktail reception at 6:15 p.m. followed by a dinner and awards presentation
at 7 p.m.

MAPS for Kids and the elementary school at the Hoover site

With preliminary design plans underway, the elementary school renovation at the Hoover site, currently serving as Eisenhower Elementary, is moving forward with its MAPS for Kids project. Parents, students, teachers and the public are encouraged to provide feedback at a community meeting on Tuesday, June 17, at 6 p.m. in Eisenhower Elementary School’s cafeteria, 2401 NW 115 Terrace.

Community Meeting: MAPS for Kids and Cesar Chavez Elementary

As progress continues toward the construction of the new Cesar Chavez Elementary School, the public is invited to participate in the planning process by attending the school’s next MAPS for Kids meeting. Parents, students, teachers, staff and the public are encouraged to attend the Monday, June 16 meeting at 6 p.m. in the Capitol Hill Elementary School cafeteria, 2717 S Robinson. To assist those in attendance, a Spanish language translator will be at the meeting.
